Photographer Bert Stern (1929-2013) is best known for The Last Sitting, a collection of 2,500 photographs of Marilyn Monroe taken for Vogue magazine over a three-day period six weeks before her death in 1962, and published as a book in 1982 which was reprinted in 2000. He also photographed Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, and Madonna, among other celebrities, and worked in advertising and travel publications and co-directed Jazz on a Summer’s Day, a documentary of the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival. Stern developed the technique of using silk screened images to add dimension to photographs.
