Cornelius Vanderbilt

Join us on Thursday, April 29 at 7 PM for The Maritime Years of Cornelius Vanderbilt, a virtual lecture by historian Patricia Salmon. The shipping and railroad empire started by Cornelius Vanderbilt began on Staten Island. Eventually, he became the second richest man in the world owing to his passion for success. Whether it was greed or the need to be the best, his shrewdness and aggressiveness brought riches beyond comprehension. Cornelius Vanderbilt's Staten Island connections will be examined as we discuss family lineage, Vanderbilt properties and homes on the island, the Vanderbilt Cemetery and Mausoleum, and more.

This lecture is the eighth in our Noble on Watch (NOW) series and will premiere on the museum’s Facebook page or here on the website.
