Gift of Lewis Chapman
Harry Fenn (1837-1911) was an American artist born in Great Britain most known for his depictions of sweeping landscapes for various publications. In 1872, his work appeared in “Picturesque America,” a book which intended to display the beauty of the United States. Due to the success of this work, he was commissioned to work on two other editions of the series focused on Europe and the Middle East. As a result of his work on the latter region, he is often remembered as a member of the Orientalist movement of the late nineteenth century.
