Thank you Councilman Borelli for the gift of maritime music and art!

In this program, special education students from I.S. 25 at I.S. 7 learned about New York Harbor's maritime history, and had a fun adventure making music and creating art based on what they learned. Teaching artist Mr. Patrick visited sixth through eighth-graders at the school to perform a lively concert that got the students up on their feet, dancing and singing along to sea shanties and familiar tunes. Each class also learned guitar basics, and were amused by Patrick's collection of silly puppets.

The students also visited the Noble Maritime Collection for an afternoon of printmaking in the tradition of artist and mariner John A. Noble (1913-1983). They painted scenes of the waterfront and cranked their work through the museum's printing press. Each student had a wonderful time, and the school teachers were delighted with the memorable experience.
