Jehu Camper (1897-1989) was a whittler based in Delaware focusing on the rural experience during the early nineteenth century.  Starting at the age of thirty-six, Camper sought to capture the memory of Americana and connect present generations to the past.  In this way, Camper thought of his art as a piece of American “folklore.”  His work often reflected this narrative, depicting scenes of everyday life of rural Delawareans, evoking emotions ranging from nostalgia to tranquility.
