Giving Tuesday is a global initiative to support non-profits. If you believe in the work we are doing and are in a position to give, we would be very grateful.

Over the last year, we served nearly 15,000 people.  We opened our major new exhibition Andrea Doria: Rescue at Sea, featuring the stories of survivors and objects recovered from the wreck of the famous Italian ocean liner.  It will be on view through June 2023.  We also taught over 3,000 schoolchildren.  They benefited from printmaking classes inspired by artist John A. Noble and character-based history programs such as Young Jacks Voyage.  English Language Learners experienced the bilingual arts education program La Capitana Dice.  And with prestigious federal funding from Institute of Museum and Library Services, hundreds of students in five schools received our innovative and progressive workforce awareness program Maritime Careers of New York Harbor.

This summer the New York Times published a lengthy article on our Maritime Careers program, which you can read here.  The article does a fantastic job of conveying why our work and this program are so relevant to our community. 

We are especially proud of Maritime Careers because it fits with Noble’s advocacy for the maritime industry.  He also believed in access to art for all and used his art as a means to preserve history, particularly through his depictions of the last days of the Age of Sail.  We also value historic preservation, particularly that of his houseboat studio, restored and installed inside the museum; Building D, the landmarked former Sailors’ Snug Harbor dormitory which is now home to the museum; and Robbins Reef Lighthouse, the historic beacon in New York Harbor currently being restored by the volunteer Noble Crew.  But more so, as it concerns the people we serve, we value knowledge gathered and shared; being inclusive of the diversity in our community; and at the heart of it all, being kind in all of our interactions.
