Still life with peaches
Photograph, 12 ¾” x 18 ½”
Len Rachlin is a largely self-taught photographer and sculptor born and based in New York. He has BA and MA degrees in Liberal Studies as well as an MBA from Baruch College. While working as a math teacher for many years, Rachlin pursued photography and sculpture, taking up positions as a hotel photographer and a photography counselor before shifting his focus to the artistic side of photography. His primary subject of photography is people, with a particular focus on candid shots, though he also photographs still lifes, landscapes, nature, nude studies, and portraits. His sculptures mostly consist of realistic figurative bronzes made first in clay and plaster before being cast into bronze using the lost wax casting process. Located in Staten Island, Rachlin has exhibited his work primarily in group shows at locations including Stony Brook University, Wagner College, the Brooklyn Museum Community Gallery, the Staten Island Museum, the Salmagundi Club, the Numeroff Gallery, the Greenbelt Nature Center, and has his bronze portrait bust of George W. Curtis on permanent display at the entrance of Curtis High School. He has published two books of his photography, Photographic Visions (2008) and Coney Island Views (2008). lenrachlin.com
