Philip Steinman (1924-2006) earned a degree in fine arts from Cornell University, with the intention of becoming an architect, but he ultimately joined the family business, SI Plate Glass. He continued to pursue his artistic interests by taking classes at the Art Lab in printmaking, etching, watercolor, and crayon. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Force, completing 37 missions over Germany and surviving being shot down twice. He was married to Layla for 37 years, and they had three children: Reuben, Marcy, and Ellen, who died in childhood. Outside of his career and family life, Steinman enjoyed swimming and traveling, maintaining a balance between professional responsibilities and personal passions.
